Performance issues for localised IP mobility management

چکیده

Base IP mobility presents performance limitations when the mobile host increases its handoff rate between successive wireless points of attachment as a result of its mobility pattern. These limitations are augmented when latency externalities such as the round trip time between the MN and its peers, add to the total of latency and signalling overhead, impeding the performance of the mobility function. To alleviate that, IP mobility management has been extended by localised IP mobility management functions focusing within the context of micromobility. This paper presents an investigation on performance issues for localised IP mobility management (LMM). Based on generic principles derived from the effect of localising mobility control signalling, it explores the behaviour of the localisation effect of the mobility management entity.

Requirements for localised IP mobility management

Standard IP mobility management (IP-MM) commonly known as Mobile IP, presents a set of technical challenges in performance and scalability, as the mobile host (MN) varies the handoff rate, due to its mobility pattern, between successive wireless points of attachment; these manifest themselves primarily as increased signalling between the MN and its peers. In addition, they encompass sources of ...

A Review: Study of Handover Performance in Mobile IP

The Mobile Internet Protocol (Mobile IP) is an extension to the Internet Protocol proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) that addresses the mobility issues. In order to support un-interrupted services and seamless mobility of nodes across the networks (and/or sub-networks) with permanent IP addresses, handover is performed in mobile IP enabled networks. Handover in mobile IP is ...

Mobility Management Issues for Next Generation Wireless Networks

The next generation networks must support mobility for ubiquitous communication between any two nodes irrespective of their locations. Mobile IP was the first protocol to support mobility. The process of registration in Mobile IP protocol requires large number of location updates, excessive signaling traffic and service delay. This problem is solved by Hierarchical Mobile IP (HMIP) using the co...

HIMIPv6: An Efficient IP Mobility Management Protocol for Broadband Wireless Networks

With the increasing deployment of mobile devices and the advent of broadband wireless access systems such as WiBro, mWiMAX, and HSDPA, an efficient IP mobility management protocol becomes one of the most important technical issues for the successful deployment of the broadband wireless data networking service. IETF has proposed theMobile IPv6 as the basic mobility management protocol for IPv6 n...

Performance Evaluation for Mobility Management Protocols in Cellular IP and Hawaii Mobile Networks

Handover management is one of the most critical issues that mobility management protocols are concerned with. This process becomes even more critical in the case of Micro-mobility where the Mobile host is expected to encounter frequent handovers. Several IP micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to enhance the performance of Mobile IP in an environment with frequent handoffs. In this paper...
